Community Mental Health Team (CMHT)

Who we are and who we support

We are a team of professionals from Midlothian Health and Social Care Partnership who provide planned mental health care and treatment.

We support adults aged 18 to 64 living in Midlothian with moderate to severe mental health difficulties, especially when your GP can’t provide all the support you need.

Support we offer

A key worker (usually a nurse, occupational therapist or social worker) will work with you and your carers to plan your care and recovery.

We will support you for as long as you need. When you are ready, we’ll agree how you will be supported by other organisations.

  • A full mental-health assessment and a clear explanation of what we find
  • One-to-one or group sessions to teach coping skills and ways to manage anxiety, low mood or strong emotions
  • Assessments for autism or ADHD
  • Practical support for day-to-day tasks (occupational therapy)
  • Clinics to keep an eye on your physical health · Advice about medicines and self-help tools
  • Help connecting with community supports, support returning to work/volunteering or peer groups

How to be referred

  1. Speak to your GP.
  2. We will let you (and your GP) know within 2 weeks if we can offer you an appointment or suggest other services that could help.

How long you will wait for an appointment

  • Most people wait 4 to 6 weeks from referral to their first appointment.
  • We will contact you sooner if a cancellation becomes available.
  • We will also keep you updated if waiting times change.

Waiting list times

1-1 support: 8-12 weeks

Groupwork: No waiting list for art, walking, cycling and gardening. 8-12 weeks for Health in Mind in Nature.

We will contact you soon if a cancellation becomes available.

We will keep you updated if waiting times change.
