Richmond’s Hope Bereavement Project

Richmond’s Hope is a bereavement support project for children and young people between the ages of 4 to 18 years old from Edinburgh, West Lothian, Midlothian, East Lothian, Scottish Borders and other areas including Fife.

Richmond’s Hope offers:

  • individual support on a weekly basis
  • peer support groups
  • parents events
  • family support (eg away days or family sessions
  • information about the grieving process
  • telephone support and advice

If you are caring for a bereaved child, you may notice some of the changes that children and young people might experience after a bereavement, such as:

  • changes in behaviour
  • persistent difficulty talking about the dead person
  • sleeping difficulties
  • eating difficulties
  • marked social withdrawal
  • persistent self-blame or guilt

Most of these changes are part of bereavement but sometimes children and young people need extra support. The project uses purpose built rooms where children and young people are helped to rebuild their lives after the death of someone they loved.
