Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland
Nordoff Robbins provides music therapy to vulnerable children and adults across Scotland and the rest of the UK. They aim to provide highly effective support for individuals with a wide range of needs and, through creative music making, enable them to make the most of their potential and enhance their quality of life.
Nordoff Robbins work with individuals who have a wide variety of additional support needs including mental health problems, autism, learning disabilities, speech and language difficulties, dementia and those in palliative care.
There are currently a team of five music therapists working from the East Scotland centre in Edinburgh. The centre provides an accessible and quiet base for individual and small group music therapy sessions, workshops, presentations and meetings.
The therapists collaborate with organisations throughout Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian to provide services in a range of locations, including both mainstream and special schools, residential and NHS settings. The team work closely with staff and professionals and provide regular training opportunities in these settings, to promote understanding, support and collaboration.
If you would like to make a referral for someone you know or for yourself, you will need to complete a referral form. When suitable time becomes available, a music therapy assessment will be offered which may comprise up to four sessions. Following this, the team will discuss together how best music therapy might be of help.
Anyone can make a referral for themselves, or a family member or carer Health care professionals, therapists, teaching staff, support workers can all make referrals.

There is no eligibility criteria. They do however discuss referrals with the person making the referral, to ensure that music therapy is an appropriate clinical intervention.
This service accepts direct self referrals.
