Joint Mental Health Team – Midlothian
The Joint Mental Health Team (JMHT) is a multi-disciplinary team, supporting people affected by mental health difficulties in Midlothian.
Service Description
It offers support to people aged between 18 – 65 in Midlothian who are affected by moderate to severe mental health difficulties.

Access to JMHT is usually via your GP or referral from another health professional.
The wider team is made up of the Intensive Home Treatment Team (IHTT), the Continued Recovery Team (CRT) and the Psychological Therapies Service (PTS).
The Intensive Home Treatment Team supports adults with acute mental health problems, and their families and/or carers. The team aims to provide an alternative to hospital admission, where this is assessed by the team to be possible. We do this by:
- assessment
- treatment
- practical help and support
- education, advice and monitoring of effectiveness/side effects of medication
- supervision of / support adherence with medication recommendations
The IHTT service operates seven days a week, from 8.00 am to 12.00 pm. From 12 .00 pm until 8.00 am there is an emergency only service provided by the Edinburgh South IHTT – contact is via IHTT phone numbers.
The Continued Recovery Team provides assessment, care planning and treatment, coordinated multi-agency support and follow up for people aged 18-64 in Midlothian with moderate to severe mental health disorders.
The team works in partnership with the service user, their families and carers in their treatment and recovery from moderate to severe mental health disorder. The Continued Recovery team coordinates most of the outpatient care, offering a range of therapeutic options.
A key worker system is in place to empower service users to participate in their ongoing treatment and care. The team aims for the maximum benefit to the service user by minimising symptoms and optimising the quality of life, in the least intrusive manner possible.
The Psychological Therapies Service (PTS) provides a range of talking therapies for people affected by mental health difficulties. The service works with people with a range of difficulties, including; depression, anxiety, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, psychosis and personality disorder.
Services provided by the PTS include:
- Assessment
- Group therapy
- Individual Treatment
- Referral on to other specialist services
Access to the service is by referral, by your GP or another mental health professional.
