Lifelong Learning – Adult Literacy, Numeracy, and ESOL
Lifelong Learning and Employability’s Adult Literacy, Numeracy and ESOL offers courses and one to one support for adults who want to improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, using numbers and basic computer skills.
Service Description
Midlothian Council has a range of services to support the mental health of residents in the county, as well as the Healthy Working Lives programme for its employees. All services are open to all and accessible, with friendly and welcoming staff. If the council cannot help, you will be signposted to another appropriate local service.
The team also offer help with driving test theory and have lipreading classes for those with acquired hearing loss. Learners can work towards an SQA certificate in Communications, Numeracy, Basic IT and Steps to Employment. Classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) take place throughout Midlothian to enable people to develop their skills in written and spoken English and gain qualifications.

Applicants for this service should also meet this condition:
Potential learner must have literacy or numeracy goals and be able to articulate the kinds of difficulties they have in their everyday, daily life.
People who do not speak English as their first language who are looking to improve their English skills.
