Patients Council, Royal Edinburgh Hospital

The Patients Council is an Independent Collective Advocacy organisation for people who use, or have used, services at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital. It works to represent the voice of patients and former patients.

The Council is a forum for collective issues within the Royal Edinburgh Hospital and its associated services, which represents service users’ interests to reshape services through working groups, social events, workshops and drop-ins.

The implementation of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 gives every person with mental illness,  a learning disability, or personality disorder, the right to access independent advocacy services.

The Patients Council provides independent Collective Advocacy which focuses on issues which affect more than one person. Examples of this includes things like the quality of food, quality of the environment as well as wider issues such as building a new hospital.
