Orchard Centre Day Services

The Orchard Centre provides a range of services across Midlothian, for adults with mental health difficulties.

The Orchard Centre aims to offer a stimulating environment to help people gain a sense of belonging, and build meaningful relationships with others. Peer support is a much valued outcome for many using the service. Core services includes:

Day Service

The day service includes group work, one to one support, volunteering, and signposting  and accessing to other services. One to one support may include  support from staff with practical, emotional and/or other issues, advocacy services, CAB services and/or referral to/support to access other services. The groupwork programme, run in partnership with the Orchard Centre Services Development Project offers some 30 groups. There are lots of things on offer, including:

  • healthy living groups, such as mindfulness, relaxation, etc
  • discussion groups
  • walking programmes
  • exercises, swimming, sports etc
  • conservation and environmental groups
  • creative arts including drama, dance, music, jewellery and knit ‘n stitch;
  • art therapy open and closed groups;
  • personal and skill development groups run in partnership with college tutors including computing, new beginnings and moving on.

Volunteering opportunities include facilitating group activities, office and service and or cooking in the café.

Out of Hours

The Orchard Centre offers a varied programme of activities that are updated each month. Events are held each weekday evening and during the day at weekends. Many events are led by Volunteers and benefit from Service member involvement.

Early Intervention and Crisis Response Service (EICRS)

EICRS provides telephone and face to face contact for people affected by mental ill health who are experiencing a non–medical crisis. The service is open 7 days a week, from 4.00 pm – 10.00 pm weekdays and from 10.00 am – 4.00 pm weekends.  On Mondays this is based in Mayfield at Sure Start in Mayfield; Tuesdays to Sundays this is based at the Orchard Centre in Bonnyrigg. Telephone no: 0131 663 5533.

Applicants for this service should also meet this condition:

Adults aged 18 and over living in Midlothian, affected by mental ill health. People need to be registered as an Orchard Centre user to access any of the groups or other services.

Self Referral

This service accepts direct self referrals.

Agency Referral

GP, Social Work, the Community Mental Health Team, and all other agencies.

    There is on street parking at the Orchard Centre, however there is no allocated parking for Orchard Centre staff or members
  • Translation Service
  • Information in community languages and a translation service can be arranged
  • This service is not accessible to wheelchair users.
  • Creche facilities are not available at this location.
