Midlothian Active Choices

Midlothian Active Choices (MAC) is an exercise scheme for adults, 18 and up, with mild to moderate mental health issues, weight management problems and or a long term or chronic illness.

People are supported to develop a 12 week plan that is tailored to their own needs around physical activity, with reduced cost access to leisure facilities in Midlothian. After the initial 12 weeks plan, a review is conducted and ongoing support provided for up to a year.

Regular MAC Group meetings are held across Midlothian, giving people a chance to chat to others who are experiencing similar health problems and to try different activities.  The meetings have resulted in a new programme where some of the service users buddy those who are less confident, taking part in activities together, from attending classes or visiting the gym, to a walk together in the local area.

Other developments include a range of MAC+ classes and supervised gym sessions, which are low level and suitable for those unable to access mainstream activities or are not confident enough to go to the gym on their own.
