Midlothian Council Health & Wellbeing Services
MELDAP (Mid & East Lothian Drug and Alcohol Partnership)
MELDAP is a partnership of organisations who works together to co-ordinate the provision of a range of services which aim to address drug and alcohol issues in East & Midlothian.
Supporting Short Breaks
Supporting Short Breaks aims to give users of mental health services and their carers, living in Midlothian, a way of deciding for themselves, what type of short break they would benefit from. The project’s objective is to promote and support recovery from long-term mental health problems and provide respite for carers.
Midlothian Substance Misuse Service (SMS)
The Midlothian Substance Misuse Service brings together Nurses, Doctors, Social Workers, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Community Care Assistants and Children 1st workers. The service specialises in the assessment, care and treatments of people who have problems related to alcohol and/or drug use.
Joint Mental Health Team
The Joint Mental Health Team (JMHT) is a multi-disciplinary team employed by Midlothian Community Health Partnership (CHP) and Midlothian Council. It is made up of professionals from a range of backgrounds including nursing, occupational therapy, medical, physiotherapy, psychology, pharmacy and mental health officer/social work, with administrative support.
The project seeks to maintain and improve the health of the over 50s using the knowledge and skills of older people themselves.
Midlothian Active Choices
Midlothian Active Choices’ aim is to provide a physical activity referral scheme for adults in Midlothian who are currently sedentary and suffering from mild/moderate mental health conditions (anxiety and or depression) and/or weight management problems.
Bonnyrigg Leisure Centre
Bonnyrigg Leisure Centre provides the local community with an excellent range of facilities including a leisure pool with flume, sauna and spa pool, large multi-use hall, Tonezone, outdoor five-a-side football pitches and softplay area.
Danderhall Community Centre
Danderhall Community Centre provides a flexible range of facilities to meet community needs, including a large multi-use activity hall, function hall, coffee bar and fully equipped Tonezone.
Gorebridge Leisure Centre
Gorebridge Leisure Centre provides a versatile range of facilities for the community including a three court sports hall, two multi-purpose halls and a state of the art Tonezone.
Loanhead Leisure Centre
Loanhead Leisure Centre provides an excellent range of facilities for the community including a 25m swimming pool and toddler swimming pool, hydro suite with spa and steam room, outdoor artificial pitches for football and tennis and a fully equipped Tonezone.
Mayfield Leisure Centre
Mayfield Leisure Centre provides excellent leisure facilities for the local community including a large sports hall, multi-purpose hall, fully equipped Tonezone, weight training room, hydrotherapy suite including spa and sauna, soft play area and outdoor artificial pitches for football and tennis.
Newbattle Swimming Pool
Newbattle swimming pool offers the community a diverse range of waterbased activities and facilities including a 25m swimming pool, 8m training pool, high and spring diving boards, and sauna.
Newtongrange Leisure Centre
Newtongrange Leisure Centre provides a versatile range of facilities for community use including a state-of-the-art Tonezone fitness suite and dance studio.
Penicuik Leisure Centre
The Penicuik Centre’s 25-metre pool with floating floor and boom wall allows maximum flexibility to meet community needs, whilst the Technogym Wellness System equipped Tonezone offers top of the range fitness facilities.
Community Learning Services
Midlothian Council provides a wide range of courses and activities throughout Midlothian, mainly through locally-based Community Learning Centres.

The Live IT centre in your local library offers you free use of computers, find quality information online and the opportunity to develop IT skills.
The MEAN is a partnership of public, private and voluntary sector agencies, which aims to support people who face barriers in the labour market to prepare for, find and stay in meaningful employment.
